On August 29th, the first Young Scholars Forum of the State Key Laboratory of Veterinary Public Health and Safety was successfully held in the academic lecture hall of the School of Animal Medicine. Academician Shen Jianzhong, director of the laboratory and president of Animal Medical College, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Professor Han Jun, deputy director of the laboratory, and Professor Hao Zhihui co-chaired the forum.

Academician Shen Jianzhong pointed out that the National Key Laboratory is an important part of the country’s strategic scientific and technological strength and a "heavy weapon of the country". Veterinary public health safety is an important part of the national public health safety system, and it is the first isolation zone and protective wall to protect the health of animals and human beings. The State Key Laboratory of Veterinary Public Health Safety is based on the country’s great demand for animal disease prevention and control, biological safety and people’s health protection, facing the forefront of international veterinary public health science and technology, focusing on the drug resistance of animal-derived bacteria and zoonosis in the core areas of veterinary public health safety, and carrying out strategic, cutting-edge and forward-looking basic and applied research around the formation and spread of drug resistance of animal-derived bacteria, the epidemic and evolution of zoonosis of important animals, the creation of prevention and control technologies and products of important hazard factors, and the early warning and control of veterinary public health risks.

Academician Shen Jianzhong emphasized that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward the three strategies of "rejuvenating the country through science and education, strengthening the country through talents and driving development through innovation". Science, technology, education and talents are strategic and basic supports, especially that "talents are the first resource". Recently, the General Offices of the General Office of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council issued "Several Measures on Further Strengthening the Training and Use of Young Scientific and Technological Talents", highlighting the main role and position of young scientific and technological talents in national scientific and technological innovation. Key laboratory is an important part of national talent training, which undertakes the dual mission of talent training and scientific and technological innovation. The Young Scholars Forum aims to further implement the spirit of the Central Committee, strengthen exchanges among young scientific and technological talents, and promote the spark collision of scientific research and innovative thinking.

Professor Ye Lilin from Army Military Medical University and researcher Yin Xin from Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences were invited to give special reports. Professor Ye Lilin shared the new identified T cell population (TCF-1+CXCR5+CD8+T; TCF-1+ TOX- CD8+T) plays an important role in anti-tumor and chronic virus infection, which provides a new idea for chronic virus infection and tumor immunotherapy. Researcher Yin Xin shared the molecular mechanism of quasi-capsule membrane obtained by hepatitis E virus.

Six young backbone teachers of Animal Medical College also shared in the forum: Professor Zhu Kui systematically expounded the cognition and excavation of new antibacterial strategies in recent years based on his own research results; Professor Sun Honglei introduced the epidemic, evolution and public health risks of swine flu virus in China. Associate Professor Shen Yingbo took the discovery of transferable colistin resistance gene mcr-1 as the breakthrough point, and expounded the mechanism of Escherichia coli mediating colistin resistance through mutation in the regulatory system of the second hospital. Associate Professor Fu Mengjiao shared the mechanism that CirB, the effector protein of Kirks bainite, inhibits the activity of host proteasome and CpeB affects autophagy. Associate Professor Gao Peng shared the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and the new mechanism of PRRSV reprogramming cell stress pathway to achieve efficient replication and immune escape, which provided important targets and ideas for the design of new vaccines and antiviral drugs; Associate Professor Yu Xuezhi shared the accurate preparation and application of rabbit monoclonal antibodies against chloramphenicol, florfenicol and florfenicol amine by using flow, microfluidic nano-chip and single cell sequencing technology.

Kun Li, director of Qingdao Yibang Laboratory, briefly summarized the prevention and control of pig farm diseases in recent years, and focused on the epidemic characteristics and prevention and control schemes of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome and porcine circovirus. Director Bing Lin took viral arthritis caused by avian reovirus as the theme, and shared its epidemiological characteristics and prevention and control strategies.

The forum was held online and offline simultaneously, with a strong academic atmosphere, active discussion and full interaction among the participants, which further promoted the beneficial exchanges among young scientific and technological personnel and expanded scientific research ideas. More than 100 young laboratory researchers and graduate students participated in this activity.
