Driving China nuclear power to "go global" Hualong No.1 has become China’s new "business card"

  Nuclear power is a technology-intensive high-tech strategic industry and an important embodiment of the country’s comprehensive strength and core competitiveness.

  The construction of Hualong No.1 demonstration project can not only promote the development of nuclear power industry chain, but also promote the development of a large number of related technology industries, promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and provide a strong impetus for the improvement of China’s equipment manufacturing and scientific and technological independent innovation capabilities.

Hualong No.1 promotes the upgrading of high-end equipment manufacturing industry.

  During the construction of Hualong No.1 demonstration project, the R&D team joined hands with 17 universities, scientific research institutions, 58 state-owned enterprises and more than 140 private enterprises, driving thousands of enterprises in the upstream and downstream industrial chain, solving a series of "stuck neck" problems, jointly breaking through the localization of 411 sets of core equipment, and completing the independent advanced model development and independent equipment manufacturing. The localization rate of the first batch of equipment of Hualong No.1 reached 88%.

It is precisely because a powerful manufacturing industry in China is supporting the independent research and development of Hualong that we can realize the smooth application of Hualong’s independent technology in the project.

  During the R&D and construction of Hualong No.1, the research team conquered a number of key technologies, which promoted the transformation and upgrading of domestic high-end equipment manufacturing industry, and formed a series of technical specifications for the design, construction, materials and welding of three generations of nuclear power, which greatly promoted the development of domestic equipment manufacturing industry and high-tech industry, enhanced the product capabilities of various industries in the entire equipment supply industry chain, and promoted the development of industrial structure.

  At the same time, the operating life of Hualong No.1 unit is 60 years, which will bring a variety of operation and maintenance facilities and large-scale spare parts demand, making it a long-term process to improve the product capabilities of various industries in the domestic industrial chain and create sustained economic benefits.

  Accelerate batch construction and "going out" pace.

  As the third-generation nuclear power technology independently researched and developed in China with completely independent intellectual property rights, Hualong No.1 has also become a new "business card" in China.

  Through the construction of Hualong No.1 demonstration project, a complete standard system of Hualong No.1 has been formed, which will not only effectively enhance the international discourse power of China’s nuclear power technology, but also support Hualong No.1 to continuously accelerate the batch construction and "going out" pace.

  Since 2016, Hualong No.1 has formed more than 2,000 standards, completed 35 key technical studies, formed a number of English versions of standards, and released China’s first ISO international standard for nuclear power. At present, Hualong No.1 has formed a complete and independent model standard system, covering the whole life cycle of nuclear power plant, including pre-stage, design, equipment, construction and commissioning. At present, the domestic Hualong No.1 Zhangzhou unit and Hainan unit are all under orderly construction.

  Xing Ji, chief designer of Hualong No.1 of CNNC:At present, eight units have started construction in China. Such a small batch work, especially to promote the optimization and improvement on the basis of the first batch, also laid a very good foundation for the construction of Hualong No.1 in a larger batch in the future.

  In addition, the export of Hualong No.1 has achieved remarkable results in "going out". The first overseas pile of K2 units in Karachi, Pakistan, of Hualong No.1 was put into commercial operation in May last year. At present, Pakistan’s second Hualong No.1 unit has also been connected to the grid and will soon be put into commercial operation.

  It is understood that China has officially signed a design, procurement and construction contract with Argentina for Hualong No.1 project. In addition, many countries and regions along the Belt and Road have paid great attention to Hualong No.1, which provides an important choice for countries with nuclear power development plans in the world.
