Museums, scenic spots, software parks, high-speed railway station, shopping malls … drifting pianos have injected cultural vitality into the city on the way. It is played by both professional pianists and folk music lovers. The drifting plan of "warming a city with a piano" is still going on.
A donated piano played a surprise in an unexpected scene.
At noon on March 3rd, Dalian Dashang New Mart Leisure Shopping Center. The melodious music of "Rhapsody at Midnight" suddenly sounded in the bustling crowd. Looking inside, a piano appeared in the center of the crowd, a pair of dexterous little hands were skillfully touching the keys, and the immature face was full of intoxicated expression. Most of the onlookers are children, all of whom are eager to try. After playing a song, the next piano boy can’t wait to sit on the piano bench. Behind them, the red banner with the words "Happy Dalian" is very eye-catching. The audience couldn’t help applauding and cheering for the virtuosity of the performers and enjoying the beauty of the music.
Seeing the scene in front of him, Shan Jingyu, the organizer of this activity, smiled with relief. As a professional piano teacher, this is the fifth stop that she and her partners accompanied drifting piano in Dalian.
The "Play Me Music in Dalian" activity was jointly initiated by the Piano Culture Committee of Dalian Cultural Market Industry Association and Durian Youth Association, and started on November 9, 2023. A Pearl River piano donated by a local music educator has been given new life by a group of piano players and people who love music.
First stop, Lushun Museum. Early in the morning, a group of people carefully carried the piano out of the home of Wang Xiaoqiang, a professor at Shenyang Conservatory of Music, in Jinshitan. Wang Xiaoqiang is more looking forward to and longing for the departure of his "old buddy" who has been with him for many years. "It is no longer mine alone, but belongs to this city and has a bigger home." He said.
The wheels of the piano crunched in the corridor of Lubo and stopped in front of a row of bronze ware display cases. Professor Wang opened the first appearance of drifting piano with a song "Three Layers in Yangguan". This ancient song, adapted from the Tang poetry, expresses the meaning of farewell, and the excited and gloomy piano sound reverberates around the cultural relics that have passed through the Millennium, as if telling the concern and reluctance for friends’ long journey. The special environment gives the song a special artistic conception, which is even more distant. "This is an effect that no matter how brilliant the concert hall is." Jeni, deputy secretary general of the Piano Culture Committee of Dalian Cultural Market Industry Association, said.
The choice of the location of the first drifting stop has been seriously discussed by the organizers. "We hope to do this activity from the source of urban history, and use music to talk with history and guide the future." Li Chaozhan, the initiator of the event and a member of the Dalian Municipal Political Consultative Conference, said that Dalian is romantic city, with oceans and good urban construction. However, this kind of romance needs to be constantly supported and passed down with new content, and music is the best medium.

Attracted by the sound of the piano, a retired teacher from Shenyang who stopped for a long time also participated in the performance team. "This opportunity is too rare!" A young man from Sichuan timidly asked that his favorite piano piece was Canon, but unfortunately he had never heard the live version. The pianist at the scene immediately "took orders". When the classic melody sounded, the young man was so excited that he held his heart and said, "A dream came true!"

The success of the first stop boosted the confidence of the organizers. Everyone on the scene showed the power of music by cherishing the piano, yearning for music and responding positively to the activities. From Lushun Taiyanggou to High-tech Zone Software Park, from Dalian North Station to New Mart Shopping Mall, every stop of drifting piano activates the city with sound art, comforts passers-by in a hurry with beautiful music, and transforms ordinary life and work scenes into cultural spaces that provide spiritual enjoyment.
In November, 2023, the Taiyanggou scenic spot in Lushun, the long road was covered with ginkgo leaves, and more golden color was still hanging on the branches. On this Ginkgo Road, Slavic Dance, Autumn Leaves, Wind Blowing Wheat Waves, and Mume Sauce …… one tune after another is played through the drifting piano. The autumn wind blows, and the leaves fall on the piano, which makes people intoxicated. "This is an advanced piano, right? Can I touch it with my hands?" A wave of tourists gathered around curiously, staring and admiring with joyful eyes, and even couldn’t help touching them.
In the interactive session, Yang Yang, a young pianist studying in Russia and a piano teacher in Dalian Campus of Shenyang Conservatory of Music, held Ms. Yan’s finger and took her to play a song "The Moon Represents My Heart". When the music flowed out, Ms. Yan couldn’t help but burst into tears. "At this moment, I really feel that music has entered my body and touched the softest zone in my heart. This feeling is so beautiful that it is worth remembering for a lifetime. " Ms. Yan said.
This is the real meaning of "Piano Drifting Plan". "The piano is the king of musical instruments. Many people think that it is’ tall’ and is displayed on the stage. If they are worried that they don’t understand it, they won’t listen. Therefore, this activity is to let the piano come out of the concert hall and go to the public, so that more people can feel it personally. " Jeni said.

In the building of Xinhuaxin Software Park, which is full of data and codes, IT professionals who are used to rational thinking have experienced the charm of perceptual music. "They beat the keyboard every day and spend their brains working. In fact, their hearts also need to be comforted. Music is a particularly good way. " Li Chaozhan introduced that the performance of the day was unexpectedly good. Among them, a theme song of the same name adapted from the movie One Step Away resonated with many people. Indeed, the distance between music and people is just one step. The piano stayed in the software park for two weeks, and the employees organized a concert for it, which made the atmosphere of the enterprise more harmonious and upward. Employees said that music gave them one more reason to love the city and their own business.
