Let’s talk about the hottest BYD DM-i super hybrid system this year. Since the beginning of 2021, BYD DM-i super hybrid system has been officially released. As the first hybrid system in China, BYD DM-i super hybrid system has chosen the "electric hybrid" route with electric drive as the main structure, which makes it very different from the "oil hybrid" route with engine as the center, achieving an essential breakthrough with "two fields".
Unlike most people’s traditional impression of plug-in hybrid, BYD DM-i super hybrid system is biased towards electricity, based on super-safe large-capacity battery and high-performance and high-power flat-wire motor, which changes the design architecture of traditional hybrid technology mainly relying on engine and oil, thus greatly reducing fuel consumption. When the daily electricity consumption is sufficient, this DM-i super hybrid system is driven mainly by high-power and high-efficiency motors. The main function of the gasoline engine is to generate electricity in the high-efficiency speed range, so as to realize the characteristics of using more electricity, less oil and high oil efficiency. On closer inspection, in March this year, BYD released three super hybrid models-Qin PLUS DM-i, Song PLUS DM-i and Tang DM-i, which basically achieved full coverage from cars to SUVs to meet different consumer needs. It is worth mentioning that up to now, the orders for this series of vehicles have exceeded 150,000, making it a textbook-level sales model in the new energy market.
As a hybrid technology independently developed in China, Great Wall Lemon Hybrid DHT fully considers the national conditions of China. While continuing the excellent performance of Toyota and Honda in low-speed working conditions, it also strengthens the power output in high-speed road conditions, emphasizing that it is a hybrid technology that can achieve both performance and efficiency in full-speed domain and all scenes. From the structural principle, the Great Wall DHT lemon mixing system is basically similar to Honda i-MMD.
But in fact, compared with Honda i-MMD’s single-speed hybrid (when driving at high speed, the engine can only directly drive the vehicle through a fixed gear), Great Wall Lemon Hybrid DHT pioneered the introduction of multi-speed direct drive technology, which can realize two-speed hybrid at high speed. When power is needed, the engine can amplify torque by downshifting to ensure power output, while when cruising is resumed, upshifting will reduce the speed and ensure good economy.
Specifically, the core of lemon hybrid DHT system is to make the engine work efficiency always at the highest point, so as to make the whole system work efficiency reach the best. Lemon hybrid DHT adopts a dual-motor series-parallel architecture, which realizes the balance between power and fuel consumption in various driving scenarios through various modes such as pure electricity, series connection, parallel connection and energy recovery.
Compared with lemon hybrid DHT, the official explanation of Kunpeng DHT is more straightforward, which is called "Dedicated Hybrid Transmission", which means special gearbox for hybrid power. Coupled with the word "Kunpeng", it is enough to see that this system is a performance-oriented route and will be the first to be mounted on the Tiggo 8 PLUS Kunpeng e+ model.
According to the information disclosed at present, the hybrid platform has the first dual-motor driven DHT gearbox of China brand, which not only has the largest number of 11 combined gears in the world, but also can realize nine full-function working modes, and adopts TSD dual-shaft drive with smoother experience. Combined with Chery’s original FIO fixed-point injection oil-cooled motor technology, TEM ultra-efficient dual-motor power distribution technology, ultra-smooth TSD dual-shaft drive design and other hybrid integrated technologies, even in low-power mode, the fuel saving rate is still more than 50%, and the energy-saving effect is quite eye-catching.
From the data point of view, the DHT gearbox with hybrid technology has a maximum input torque of 510N·m and a torque density of 35 N m/kg, which is compatible with pure electric, hybrid, extended range and hybrid power modes, and it is not a problem to match medium and large vehicles at all. In terms of actual effect, the Tiggo 8 PLUS PHEV equipped with the first hybrid power of Kunpeng DHT can achieve a comprehensive result of 1L of comprehensive fuel consumption per 100 kilometers within 5s of zero acceleration, which is really strong.
Following BYD, Great Wall and Chery, Changan Automobile also released its brand-new hybrid system-Blue Whale iDD hybrid system. The so-called blue whale iDD is the abbreviation of "intelligent Dual Drive", which can be literally translated as "intelligent dual drive system", which means the joint drive of motor and engine. The advantage of this power architecture is that it can greatly utilize the existing traditional fuel vehicle industry system to quickly build the architecture of hybrid power system. Therefore, in the technical field of hybrid power, Changan Automobile is obviously behind BYD and Great Wall Motor, which can be seen from the fact that the new blue whale iDD hybrid system also adopts P2 architecture.
However, the Blue Whale iDD hybrid system also has something remarkable. It breaks the traditional energy management technology based on MAP rules in the industry, takes the lead in realizing the mass production application of the global dynamic energy management algorithm of A-ECMS, and has many independent research and development technologies such as multi-core parallel computing architecture, full power domain OTA and power attribute customization, and has won more than 50 national invention patents.
It is worth mentioning that Changan owns complete intellectual property rights for all the above technologies. Incidentally, Changan’s Blue Whale iDD hybrid system based on P2 6-speed hybrid gearbox is compatible with PHEV and HEV hybrid technologies, which adds countless imaginations for Changan’s subsequent launch of new fuel vehicles.
On the road of hybrid, as one of the bosses of China brand passenger cars, Geely’s action is a little slow, but it is quite a feeling that the first shot is the peak. The reason why it is the peak at first hand is that Geely is the first one who dares to directly point out that its comprehensive performance surpasses that of China among so many Japanese brands. For those who dare to say such things, Geely Ray’s mind engine Hi·X certainly has two brushes.
First of all, the DHE15(1.5TD) engine specially developed by Geely for hybrid-the world’s first mass-produced supercharged direct injection hybrid engine-has an extremely high thermal efficiency, reaching 43.32%, which is 2 percentage points higher than the self-priming of Toyota 2.5L, which was awarded the title of "the world’s first" in the early years. In addition, Lei Shenqing Hi·X also owns the world’s first mass-produced 3-speed hybrid transmission-DHT Pro, which has more opportunities for the engine to be in an efficient working area, similar to the principle of Chery’s Kunpeng DHT, while Lemon DHT only adopts a two-speed transmission.
In addition, there is another big point of Hi·X, which is its full-speed domain parallel connection. According to the manufacturer’s statement, Raytheon power series vehicles can enter the parallel mode when the speed is above 20km/h, realizing the ejection start, which is much lower than the parallel speed of Japanese cars mixed at least 70km, and the system efficiency is improved by 20%. For reference, the speed of the Great Wall lemon hybrid DHT switching to parallel mode is 35km/h, while the Honda i-MMD system needs to reach 80km/h to enter parallel mode.
The rise of China brand in the hybrid market has made us see that it is no longer a situation of "two fields dominating each other". If you ask which of these companies has strong hybrid technology, there may not be a standard answer to this question, because the technical paths and orientations of each company are different. For example, BYD DM-i and Great Wall Lemon Hybrid DHT put special emphasis on fuel saving, while Chery Kunpeng Hybrid DHT puts more emphasis on power output. But one thing is certain, with the vigorous development of China brand, it proves that China brand has firmly seized the opportunity of overtaking in this corner of "hybrid".
